Joshua Anderson, an associate of the firm, practices primarily in the areas of general civil and business litigation. Joshua’s practice consists of a diverse array of matters including bankruptcy and collection, real estate, probate & estates, contract, and construction litigation.
Joshua represents both businesses and individuals in a variety of construction and real estate matters, including defective construction of residences, easement disputes, and breach of contract claims. Joshua also dedicates a significant portion of his practice to representing banks and other lenders. Joshua has drafted and reviewed notes, guaranty agreements, security agreements, deeds and other commercial and real estate documents. Joshua has also assisted clients in collection lawsuits, foreclosures, stay relief proceedings in bankruptcy, and in defending against preference and setoff claims.
Joshua works with his clients to develop strategies to achieve their goals in and out of court. Joshua’s objective is to accomplish the best possible outcome for his clients as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Joshua graduated with his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Tennessee College of Law. In law school, Joshua served as an editor for the Tennessee Law Review and Tennessee Journal of Law and Policy, and also was an officer of the Moot Court Board. Joshua competed successfully in several moot court competitions, including the Advocates Prize Competition in which he argued before three judges of the United States Court of Appeals and received an award for the best team. Joshua gained invaluable experience as a student attorney in the University of Tennessee Legal Clinic in obtaining conservatorships and orders of protection for indigent clients. Joshua also served as a summer law clerk for both the Tennessee Secretary of State and the Tennessee Attorney General.
Prior to law school, Joshua graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Maryville College. Joshua majored in political science and was active in student government and other civic activities. His senior year, Joshua completed a semester-long legislative internship with Senator Mike Bell and the Tennessee Senate Government Operations Committee.
Throughout college and law school, Joshua has also been a successful advocate in the field of public policy. In 2017 and 2018, Joshua successfully lobbied the Tennessee General Assembly and Governor for passage of legislation that allowed American Sign Language (ASL) to fulfill foreign language requirements for Tennessee schools. In 2021, Joshua and his wife successfully lobbied for passage of legislation in the Tennessee Senate that would require Text-to-911 to be available in all emergency communication districts throughout the State of Tennessee. This legislation ultimately led to successful negotiations with the State 911 Board to implement a policy requiring all districts to implement Text-to-911. Joshua has also assisted and advised legislators and policymakers on a variety of other bills and regulatory matters.
Joshua and his wife, Molly, daughter, Lucy, and black Labrador retriever, Alex, currently reside in Chattanooga. They enjoy traveling, cooking, and staying active in the community. They are members of Christ United Methodist Church.
